The Southern Highlands Quilters Guild was formed in 2005, when an advertisement was placed in the local paper seeking Ladies who may be interested in forming a Quilters Guild. The response was overwhelming and 36 ladies attended the first meeting at the Country Women’s Association rooms in Mittagong.
A steering committee was formed on the 18th August 2005. As the fledgling Guild began to grow, the local Returned Services Club at Mittagong, agreed to provide accommodation for “Sit n Sew” and meetings. The Southern Highlands Quilters Guild was incorporated in October, 2010.
“The Guild is there to enable us to share our ideas, skills and mistakes in patchwork and in quilting. It is a place to meet new people, and a place where there are other like-minded ladies who understand that it is alright to cut up a perfectly good piece of fabric, only to sew it up again in a different way”
Carolyn Clisdell, Foundation President, 2005.
